And here's my take on her sketch.

 

  I chose a Papertrey Ink bird's nest and turned it into an autumnal wreath. 

I used icons from Waffle Flower and colored them then adhered them to the wreath. 

A card base was embossed with wooden planks and topped with a smaller frame.

The wreath was adhered per the sketch and finished off with the sentiment.

How fun is this one?

 

 

I decided to go postal with a postage stamp as my rectangular element. 

 

 I created a stamp with some patterned paper and added the postal marks. I thought

about adding a pretty bloom but reached for this happy bird instead because it's time 

she made another appearance. I stamped the sentiment then layered everything onto

a card base. 

 

Note: This card was sent to a centenarian who reached an amazing milestone and 

we've been told she likes to receive birthday cards and opens and reads each one!

Freshly Made Sketches #747

 

This week's Freshly Made Sketches #747 is brought to us by our teammie Kim.

 

 

So many possibilities for this sketch! What do you see? Balloons? Hearts?

I brought out citrus slices from The Greetery. Again.

 

 I went with lemons and limes this time. I assembled them on an embossed panel

and tucked in some leaves. A white embossed sentiment finished off the card.

Freshly Made Sketches #731

 

Freshly Made Sketches #731 is my very first sketch as a team member! 

I was SO nervous and looked back on previous sketches to see if it had been

done before. Nope. So I went with it.

 

 

Easy peasy sketch, right? I have several card ideas in mind but for now,

here's what I came up with. I took the botanical route.

 

 I cut several small blooms and leaves and inked them with Zig markers. I adhered

them to six rectangle shapes then popped up each shape on an embossed card

base and finished off with the Spellbinders sentiment.

Freshly Made Sketches #727

It's Michele's turn to grace us with a sketch for Freshly Made Sketches #727

and it's a good one! Check it out.

So many possibilities, right? As always, I had a completely different idea in mind from

when I started and decided to go "cute" which doesn't happen too often 'round here.

I was inspired by Michele's card and her bunny theme.

I discovered a SSS bunny die from an older release and assembled her with a scarf 

and added an egg between her paws. I used an arch die and inked two colors on it 

and spattered it with water. 

A panel was embossed with an embossing folder and the arch was adhered over it. 

I added the bunny and some greenery per the sketch and topped it with a 

woodgrain frame. I finished off the card with a Waffle Flower sentiment and 

white jewel dots.

Freshly Made Sketches #726

Freshly Made Sketches #726 is brought to us by our teammie Karren.

I love tags and while searching for an elusive tag die, I opted for a postage die.

 I found a ready made stamp from a previous card and stamped the postage marks

 on it. A panel of gray card stock was embossed and adhered to a card base. A strip

 of patterned paper with colors that matched the stamp design was adhered to

the card and the stamp was popped up over it.

Freshly Made Sketches #724

 

Jen B is back and brings us Freshly Made Sketches #724.

 

I used Altenew's Craft Your Life Stitched With Love Kit because it had several 

elements that I could use on my card. The flowers and leaves are unique in that you

die cut them, then run through an embossing folder that gives them texture.

I also used the burlap background stamp so the panel would have texture without

the added bulk. At first I was trying to get a perfectly stamped image but went with

an imperfect print for interest. A Waffle Flower sentiment finished off the card.

Guest Designer for Freshly Made Sketches #704

 

I have the pleasure of guesting with this week's Freshly Made Sketches #704

when my card was chosen as the winner for their milestone 700th sketch.

 

Here's the fun sketch, designed by DT member Michele. 

 

Bubbly fun, right? I had so many ideas but finally settled on this.

 

 

I love the round leaves of the Berry Branches from The Stamp Market and that

there are two sizes to play with. I went neutral with a kraft embossed panel

and left the branches white. A Waffle Flower sentiment finished off the card.

I can't wait to see how the team members interpreted Michele's sketch, each

in their own distinctive style. We'd love to see your card(s) in the gallery.

JUGS Word Week #792 -- CONTAINER

 

I'm squeezing in a card for JUGS Word Week #792 and the word is CONTAINER.

 

My container of choice is a teapot because I wanted something different

to hold a bunch of flowers.

The flowers and teapot were colored with Zigs and a waterbrush, then

adhered to an embossed card base. A Waffle Flower sentiment finished

off the card.

That's it for today. I believe I have a whole 48 hours before the deadline

which is "early" for me.

The Flower Challenge #106 -- Use the Sketch

 

This month's cue word at The Flower Challenge #106 is Use the Sketch.

Here's the sketch.

 

 

And here's my take on the sketch. I went rogue and flipped it because 

I wanted to use cherry blossoms and have them fluttering downwards.

Several colors of card stock were die cut and some flowers were inked to give

them dimension. I ran them through the embossing folder for the cherry 

blossom details. I cut a few from green card stock and cut the petals apart 

for leaves. They were adhered to a card base per the sketch.

I added a flower and leaf that appears to be falling from the rest. I stamped

the sentiment and used a corner rounder to round off one corner.

I'll link this and maybe make another card using the sketch the "right" way.

Freshly Made Sketches #700

 

It's a celebration over at Freshly Made Sketches as they've reached their milestone

700th challenge in 14 years! I just had to make some time to join the fun.

 

 A super fun sketch, right? Visit Freshly Made Sketches and be inspired by their

design team and take a look back at each past and present member's first project.

Here's how I was inspired.

Spellbinders' Sunflower Die just arrived a few days ago after being OOS for quite

sometime. I die cut several layers from light yellow card stock and inked them

to create multi colored sunflowers. 

I cut a square card base from cream colored card stock and ran the front through

an embossing folder. I wanted to frame the flowers so I cut MFT's Square Frame

then placed the flowers inside.

I added the single leaf, following the sketch, and chose a long script sentiment

to finish off the card.

Freshly Made Sketches #699

 

Verena is hosting the current Freshly Made Sketches $699 with this fun sketch.

 

 Since any shape can be substituted for the circular element, I went with a wood slice.

 

A birch wood slice was assembled and a few blooms were added on the side. 

A panel was embossed then trimmed and adhered to a card base. The wood

slice was adhered to the card and finished off with a script sentiment.

I hope that I haven't strayed too far from Verena's sketch. Thanks so much

JUGS Mood Board Week #784

 

I'm having such a fun time guesting over at JUGS Challenge this month.

This week's Mood Board is probably the first time I've tried making a card based 

on the graphic. Because I had to. And I have to admit that it was nerve wracking.

 

 

Here's what I finally came up with.

 

 

When all else fails, postage stamps to the rescue. I found a paper pad of pretty florals 

and cut out a few then adhered them to postage frames.

The background was lightly inked and the stamps were popped up over it. I added 

some greenery and a flower and stamped the sentiment and gave a sigh of relief. 

I rather like how this card turned out. I hope I caught the gist of the mood.

JUGS Word Week #783 -- WATER

 

 It's Word Week over at JUGS Challenge #783 and the cue word is WATER.

 

 

 

Since it's summer, the water that I chose was the ocean. I'm sure I won't be alone 

on that idea. Here's my card with a DIY beach scene.

 

 

I have stamps and stencils of an ocean shoreline, but in the end I decided to create 

one of my own. I inked watercolor card stock in various shades of blue and spritzed 

a good amount of water to mimic splashing waves.

 

The "sand" was created on kraft card stock, torn for an uneven look. I applied 

Versamark ink to the edge and heat embossed with white embossing powder. 

I added a beach umbrella. a pair of flip flops and finished off with the sentiment, 

making sure to show as much ocean water as possible. The panel was then adhered

to a postage frame.

Freshly Made Sketches #693

 

It's a new month and week as Amy brings us Freshly Made Sketches #693.

 

 

Here's how I was inspired. For the record, I used three products that are either 

discontinued and/or no longer exist. But I have them, love them, and used them. 

 

I reached for Waffle Flower's Dry Flowers--again. It's pretty forgiving when doing

messy water coloring with Zigs. I chose a Papertrey Ink label that was a favorite

years ago and stamped Hero Arts' Raindrop Background in Versamark ink.

A sentiment from Reverse Confetti that was featured during Simon Says Stamps'

STAMPtember (from 2021!) was white embossed on the label. The flower stems were

trimmed in half then rejoined to form longer stems per the sketch. The label was 

then adhered to the card base.

Freshly Made Sketches #689

 

Cécile brings us Freshly Made Sketches #689 and I was excited to make a square 

card, although it's not a requirement. It's just been a while since I've made one.

 

 

 

I substituted a wood slice from The Greetery for the square element and added 

some splatters and a few Waffle Flower Dry Flowers that were colored with Zigs 

and a water brush. 

The 5" by 5" card base was embossed before the wood slice was adhered. For the 

sentiment I found an oldie from Right at Home to finish off the card.

Freshly Made Sketches #686

 

Kim brings us Freshly Made Sketches #686 that I initially thought looked "friendly" 

 then struggled with measurements. I was never a star pupil in Math.

I cut a panel of the forest green card stock, then a kraft panel with a circle cut

through the center. I then ran the kraft panel through an embossing folder and 

assembled the flowers through the opening. A Waffle Flower sentiment

finished off the card.

 

I wanted to showcase the flowers from Waffle Flower that Shauna Todd colored on

the Foiled Fox blog. I used my faithful Zigs and a water brush whereas she used

Distress reinkers. It was a fun, stress free coloring session that I'll be doing again..

JUGS Word Week #774 -- FRUIT

 

The graphic for JUGS Word Week #774 caught my eye. FRUIT! I happened to be

looking through my Waffle Flower inventory and spotted some products that

have never been opened. I seem to be finding that a lot lately.

 

 

 I watched the talented Caly Person make a couple of fruity cards and decided 

on a watermelon card.

 

 

 Watermelon happens to be a favorite in our household and we are lucky

to have some locally grown ones that will make their debut soon.

I inked up some Watermelon card stock from C&9th with Poppy ink that

faded to the rind. I followed Caly's idea of a two toned rind and adhered some

black seeds. I finished off the card with a white embossed sentiment.

 

 I do wish it read "you make my TUMMY smile", but HEART was close enough.

I was also going to trim the card into a pie shaped "slice" as Caly mentioned

but it was an afterthought that would have had me splitting seeds.

Maybe next time.

Long Time No See

  

Well, I totally missed Time Out Challenges #271 deadline by a day but thought I'd 

share this anyway because I like how it turned out. Once again, patterned paper

was my friend.

 

 

I was inspired by Allison Frazier (@allifrazier on Instagram) and how she played with 

postage stamp supplies and patterned paper to create some quick and easy cards. 

I found a pad of paper on Amazon with large floral images and created postage 

stamps with Spellbinders Nested Postage Label Dies.

All postage marks were made with Waffle Flower Crafts Oversized Postage Stamp Set.

I chose the CZ Design sentiment because it fit perfectly in the space and white

embossed it so it would stand out against the dark background.

To give the panel some dimension, I cut out another butterfly and flower and popped 

them up. A second postage panel was cut and adhered in the back to create a hinge. 

I'm a little late with the postage trend but I know that I'll be making more cards 

using patterned paper because it's fast and fun. Thanks for stopping by!

Freshly Made Sketches #649 AND Color Throwdown Challenge #806

It's not often that I enter two challenges but the stars aligned for Freshly Made

Sketches #649 and Color Throwdown Challenge #806.

So here's the sketch.

And here's the color palette.

 

And here's my card that combines both.

The nest and eggs were tossed in the holder for the dies and I don't know why I made

yellow eggs but I had an "aha!" moment and added the greenery. I love it when I don't

have to work too much.

I loosely followed the sketch although I thought about using an MFT hexagon die

but went rogue with the nest. I had to turn the orientation of the card to landscape 

format because the nest took up a lot of the card's real estate in portrait mode.

I stamped the sentiment on a patterned paper strip and embossed the background

with a dotty embossing folder. Done, with days to spare! Yay!
