You've probably seen it on cards. Wrinkly looking ribbon in muted colors that add the perfect vintage touch to a card. I first saw the ribbon used on Kiara's card here:

Gorgeous, huh? I love how she uses the perfect color of ribbon to complement each of her cards.
After buying several bundles on Etsy, I wanted more colors and wondered if I could make some myself. I searched You Tube and there are several great video tutorials that show you step by step how to make your own wrinkled ribbon. And it's not really a "ribbon" but rayon seam binding.
I found a great source for 100 yard spools of seam binding here. They come in tons of colors but if you want to custom dye your own, you have to get the white, cream or eggshell.
I made a card for an upcoming challenge and I can't share it yet--you'll see it on August 7th--but here's a peek at the ribbon tied around it. I used some Dusty Concord distress ink and for this, I just pressed the ink pad on my craft mat, spritzed some water and sopped it all up with the ribbon.
And if you do decide to try this, wear disposable gloves!
Thanks for visiting! Hope you all have a great weekend!
Great card and the ribbon looks wonderful. Can't wait for the reveal as the ribbon looks interesting... lovely colour.... great tip about the gloves...

ReplyDeleteOooohhh, Donna! Thank you for sharing your source for the seam binding. I love the results you achieved with the Distress Ink. Lovely and soft. I have also seen a tutorial where you can add a few drops of a Copic marker refill (any color) and a few drops of Colorless Blender to a small zippered baggie. Take a piece of the seam binding and place it in the baggie and just sort of massage it around to pick up all that fab color. I can't tell you how excited I am about this seam binding stuff...lol!!
ReplyDeleteYour card is exceptional, by the way! Love the doily in the background and of course your image is perfectly colored. Can't wait to see the full pic of your other card, too ;D
