Wryn--Spring Bling

Here's another new Wryn in the Tiddly Inks family: Wryn--Spring Bling. Isn't she sweet? The image totally reminds me of Spring. I colored her with Copics and added some grass for a bit of dimension.

I used both the Martha Stewart hydrangea border punch and the 3-in-1 hydrangea punch with papers from Making Memories. I usually don't decorate the inside of my cards, but this time, I used the perfect sentiment from Tiddly Inks, and added a sprinkling of flowers and pearls.

Howdy!

There's a new kid in town over at Tiddly Inks--Wryn Howdy Cowgirl. She's the cutest gal with her adorable hobby horse, and snazzy cowgirl boots!

I colored her with Copics and gave her a little pop of red on her vest. I used Reverse Wonky Rectangles to cut everything out, including the frame, which was stamped with Hero Arts' Raindrop Background.

I finished the card off with a sentiment from SRM Stickers.

Have you met Wryn?

The newest character at Tiddly Inks is Wryn, and I grabbed her on release day from the Tiddly Inks store. She's a little sugar and a little spice, along with everything nice! You can read all about how she was created by Christy Croll here on her blog. It's a charming story.

I printed Wryn on white cardstock and colored her with Copics. The sentiment is an oldie from Hook, Line & Inkers. I rounded one of the corners, tied a bit of twine and my first Valentine card of the year is done.

Happy Birthday, Tiddly Inks!

To celebrate Tiddly Inks' birthday, they're having a Puzzler Adventure with lots of great prizes! Go here for all the details on how you can join the fun.

Christy has lots of new digis in her store, but her Hugg-a-Buggs are still near and dear to my heart. They're the first images I bought from her and I've been a "coloring friend" ever since.

Here's my card featuring Cherry Bugg, one of my all time faves. Don't you love those stacked cupcakes? Yum! I'll admit this is an older card that I've never shared on my blog before, but it's so appropriate for a birthday celebration.

I made the dotty background by clear embossing Hero Arts Cling Dots and ink distressed with Fired Brick distress inks. The image was colored with Copics and I added a few highlights with a white pigment pen.

Happy Summer!

First of all, thanks to all of you for your sweet comments and good wishes for me on joining the Purple Onion Designs team! I'm a little nervous but super excited to start working with a company that I've long admired. In a few days, I'll be sharing my first cards as an official Onion....so stay tuned!

Do you think it's too early for a summery card? With the month of May just a few days away, I think summer is zooming towards us sooner than we think. And living in Hawaii....well, it's summer almost every day!

I couldn't resist using Tiddly Inks' Snorkel Bunny and a fun sketch by Sasya for my card. Rather than search for patterned paper, I used three of Hero Arts' background stamps to make my own papers.

For the background, I clear embossed Graph Background and ink distressed with Broken China and Faded Jeans. I water splotched the card for a bit of interest.

The pennants were clear embossed with Raindrop Background and ink distressed with Orange Marmalade and Wild Honey.

The piece behind the bunny was stamped with Large Canvas Stripes in Frayed Burlap and ink distressed with the same color. The sentiment was handstamped by me, using my favorite $1 alpha stamps and I added a touch of Glossy Accents to the bunny's snorkel mask.

Tiddly Inks Challenge #33 -- Refresh Me!

The last challenge at Tiddly Inks was to create an all white card, using no color, except on the image. I couldn't wait to challenge myself, and use one of Christy's newest digis--Donna's Adventure.

Yep, she's still toting her little umbrella, folded up and tucked in her wagon since the sun is out--for now. I die cut the cloud, sun, and grass and ran them through the Cuttlebug embossing folder for a bit of texture. The sentiment was stamped in Pumice Stone distress ink so it wouldn't be so bold.

I love this digi and I hope Christy has more adventures in store for Donna. And for your convenience, this digi is also sold pre colored, so you can put together a super quick card.

I woof you!

This is probably the fastest card I've ever made. This little shih tzu is a digital freebie named Kiki, from Christy Croll of Tiddly Inks. I saw the digi on the Tiddly Inks blog yesterday, printed it out and colored it and finished the card by the evening. Isn't she a cutie?

I Googled "shih tzu" to see how to color one of these breeds. Originally, I was going to put a heart in her mouth, but in the end, I decided to leave her plain and just drew in some grass. I followed Kim's great grass tutorial here.


After coloring her lightly with Copics, I used a white pigment pen to draw in her fur. Here's a shot of the Copics that I used:

I wasn't sure what sentiment to use with Kiki, and my daughter--a teacher--suggested "I woof you" and I liked it! The dotty background was a piece that was waiting in my scrap bag, so all I did was die cut the back piece and the card was done.

A new year....a new store!

Happy 2011! Hope your celebrations were safe and fun.  Any resolutions? Craftwise, I resolve to use some older, untouched supplies and stamps and try to clean up as soon as I've completed a card or project. But on the other hand, if I clean up too much, I won't know where I put everything! I like "organized chaos"--how about you?

Here's a card that I made using Tiddly Inks' Toasting Properly digi. See her little dangling skull earrings? I'd be a bit wary about her bubbly drink, especially with a skull on the label...

Naughty or nice?

Challenge #31 at Tiddly Inks is to create a card inspired by a Christmas song. This image reminded me of "Santa Claus is Coming to Town" where Santa is "making a list, checking it twice; gonna find out who's naughty or nice".  

After coloring the image, I cut it out using the oval Nestabilities and tried to do the "out of the frame" method, to make her list appear as if it's coming out of the Nestie shape.





Alice made it look so simple here, and Rach's tutorial is so clear and concise. I just need a LOT more practice! I ended up printing out another list and pasting one over the other. The background was in my scraps bag--something that I stamped up last year!

Trick or Treating with Tiddly Inks & Simply Betty Stamps

Tiddly Inks has teamed up with Simply Betty Stamps for a spooktacular blog hop! Get all the details here and join the hop to win some fabulous prizes!

There's a small twist to the hop to share a "trick"--a favorite technique that you used on the card--or a "treat" which is simply sharing a project.

I chose "Rio", a digital stamp from Simply Betty who will be retired as a digi this Halloween (how appropriate!) and turned into rubber. I've always admired her super cool spider web skirt!

I colored her hair and face, and when I got to her lips, the color bled outside of the lines! With Copics, reds are the hardest to remove with the colorless blender. I thought I'd give it a shot, but the more I tried, the worse things got. Rio looked as if she'd eaten some strawberry jam and smeared her mouth!
She was already trimmed out--which took me forever!-- and it seemed like a waste to toss her just because of her mouth. So I decided to do a face transplant.

I colored another face, being extra careful to color in her lips without smearing, and trimmed it out. Then I adhered it over the original image and managed to salvage Rio and use her on my card.

Here's my finished card with Rio's surgically repaired face.

I found some patterned paper from My Mind's Eye with a spidery background that was perfect with Rio.

I also used Tim Holtz's new embossing folder and tied some seam binding that I dyed with Spiced Marmalade + Rusty Hinge distress inks.

Hi all! When I helped the fabulous Amy Young preview her Sweet November Halloween babies a few months ago, she generously gave me a set of the cuties and I'd like to share a couple of them with you.

Tiddly Inks Challenge #24 -- ATCs

The latest challenge at Tiddly Inks is to create an ATC, or Artist Trading Card. I couldn't resist joining the challenge--I love making ATCs! I wanted to use one of Christy's cute Halloween digis and decided on Batty with her pet bat on a leash.

I used two different distress inks for the background--Pumice Stone and Black Soot--and did some water splotching and added some white dots. I colored one of the images and left the other "as is" for a different look. The finished size for each is 2.5 by 3.5".

You have a few more days to join the challenge over at Tiddly Inks. ATCs are fun and making them can be quite addictive. Plus, it's a good way to use your scraps!

Meet...Donna!

 Check out the newest digis in the Tiddly Inks store and you'll see a digi named "Donna". Christy Croll named it so, since I once asked her for an image with an umbrella. Isn't she cute? She reminds me of our daughters when they were younger.

I have a thing for umbrellas, because the "kasa" in my last name means umbrella in Japanese. The number 3 is "mi", so the literal translation of Mikasa is "three umbrellas". Now you know why I chose that name for my blog and my affinity for umbrellas!

Did you notice the handle of the umbrella? It's a little frog! I colored the umbrella and added some spots to mimic a frog's body, and although you can't see it, I dotted the "rain" with my Aqua Lip pen for raindrops.

A black and white princess

Hi there! Just a quick post today, sharing a black and white card using Tiddly Inks' Everyday Princess. I didn't realize how much I would like coloring this way. It's pretty relaxing and not stressful at all. Especially if you don't have all the Copic colors, like me!

Rach gave a great tutorial here on black and white Copic coloring, and I tried to do shiny black hair like Lysa shared here. All in all, it's a fun and fast way to color an image and something different, too!
