Catered Crop--Washi's Up, Doc?

Catered Crop's latest recipe ingredient is washi tape and I couldn't resist playing along. 

After gathering my (partial) collection of washi tape for a photo shoot, I made this quick card.

I folded several strips of washi tape over some twine and trimmed them to form pennants. 

I love the transparency of washi tape and how the different widths and patterns 

make for a fun banner.

I wanted to punch out a heart on one of the flags, but the punch kept getting stuck. Plan B was to tape some pink washi tape on a piece of cardstock, punch out the heart and adhere it to the flag. Much better. The sentiment is from Paper Smooches.

CFC 62--Back in Black

CASual Fridays Challenge #62 is Back in Black, to create a clean and simple card with a black card base.

Black is so dramatic and I don't use it that often as a card base. So the hardest part of the challenge was finding some black cardstock and trying to take a good photo of the card on a not so sunny day.

I stamped Hero Arts' Circle Lace with Versamark and white embossed the design. I also stamped the sentiment on a scrap piece and trimmed it out. I adhered the flower and sentiment, rounded off one corner and the card was done.

Happy summer!

Well, I did it. I conquered the Diamond Head trail! Sunday was just gorgeous with blue sunny skies and a slight breeze--perfect hiking weather.

And the best reward after a hike? Shave ice! In Hawaii, shave ice is the most popular cold treat. There are many shave ice shops in every neighborhood and people have their favorite haunts that they consider "the best".

Shave ice was the inspiration for my shaped card. It depicts a rainbow shave ice, one of the more popular flavors with strawberry, pineapple, and vanilla syrup poured over finely shaved ice, thus forming a rainbow. It's usually served in a paper cone cup, and eaten with a small wooden spoon.

I handcut the shapes and ink distressed the "syrup" with Distress inks and then water splotched the surface to give it an "icy" look. I also hand cut the wooden spoon and ink distressed the edges.

I couldn't find a suitable sentiment so I typed one up in a fun font, cut out a banner and attached it to the front of the cup.

oh! happy day

Did you ever have a song stuck in your head and you keep humming or singing it over and over again? That's what happened after my family saw this card that I propped up on a table after it was done.

Yep, they started singing the gospel line over and over and over....So I figured it must have made them happy. Which is this week's cue card over at CASology. Happy.

The Noah alphabet set and distress inks were still on my craft table, and I stamped up the sentiment in one try, overlapping some letters, and not really worrying about the distressed look.

I overstamped the words with the mesh background stamp in Antique Linen and the card was done. This could be a "happy anything" card--birthday, anniversary, graduation....a happy card!

I'm hoping this isn't my last blog post. Tomorrow my daughter and her boyfriend are taking me hiking on the Diamond Head trail because they "think I can do it". I'm a little nervous and excited at the same time. Stay tuned....and wish me luck!
