Meet...Annie!

My super sweet friend Alice shared a box full of stamped images with me and I found several of these Sugar Nellie Annies inside. I decided to make a cheery Goth card since I started coloring her hair black.

These Annie stamps are by Leanne Ellis and is it just a coincidence that Pure Innocence artist Heather Ellis shares the same last name? I wonder if they're related? Does anyone know?

I love Annie and I'll be making a visit to Funky Kits to get more stamps of my own. Thanks, Alice, for introducing me to Annie!

Still more Innocence

I'm waiting patiently for my new Hero Arts stamps to arrive in the mail. In the meantime, I made a few cards with more (yep, you guessed it!) Pure Innocence digis.

My new favorite Nestabilities die is the nested blossom. I've used it here on all three cards, and I think it goes well with the Pure Innocence images.

These two digi images are now on sale at Heather Ellis' website . Pure Innocence clear stamps can also be found at My Favorite Things. The clear stamp sets come with sentiments, but the digi sizes can be played with--something I've learned to appreciate.

My daughter asked me to make some cards for a friend. I think I'll be making a set using Pure Innocence images since they're fast and fun to color--and I think I may have bought them all.

A treeless Christmas...

I've seen photos of some gorgeous Christmas trees on friends' blogs. Perfectly sculpted, beautifully decorated trees. Here's a photo of ours. This is the first Christmas that we are without a real, honest-to-goodness, bloomin' live evergreen. Oh, we could have gotten one earlier. We kept seeing that Christmas tree tent up and thinking that they'll still have trees for sale the following weekend.

But there were definitely less trees for sale than last year and it didn't help that several containers of trees were rejected and returned because of some bugs that the inspectors found. I think our daughter would have taken a tree with bugs and sprayed it with insecticide herself, if it meant having a live tree.

So thank goodness for the 18" artificial one that her boyfriend gave her last year. I kind of like it. You don't have to water it, it was already decorated and even has lights on it. The only thing missing is.......the smell. But at least we have a tree to put our presents under! Or around....

More Pure Innocence

Here's another card made with Pure Innocence digis. Heather Ellis' Etsy shop is closed until January 3rd because she's on holiday, but you can still get some digis from her second website here and, as Erin informed me, they are now on sale! And there are a few new images as well. Thanks, Erin!

I just love the innocent charm of Pure Innocence designs. They are quick to color and make for super quick cards. Hope you'll like them, too!

Post Blog Hop...

I've finally recuperated from the Hero Arts blog hop a few days ago...It was so much fun! So many wonderful ideas from special guest bloggers--did you see Tim Holtz?? --that my wish list of the newest stamps got even longer!

I want to mention that the technique that I used on the row of houses can be found here. The wonderfully talented Jennifer McGuire shared this during Fall Stamp Camp at Two Peas. When I first followed her tutorial, I couldn't stop making the backgrounds.

Just follow Jennifer's tutorial and you'll be water splotching, too. I covered the embossed house design and "grass" portion with a protective piece of paper so the water spots would show only on the "sky" portion. I hope you'll try it.....it's so much fun!

Also, the paper wallet was a lift from a cute one that my super creative friend Kelly Booth shared on her blog a few weeks ago. She sewed hers, which made for a stronger wallet, while I used terrifically tacky tape and faux stitching. We both used velcro closures. Thanks, Kelly, for the great gift idea!

It's time to hop!

The 2010 catalog will feature some house stamps and this row of houses stamp has a lot of possibilities--new home, a move, housewarming. After embossing the houses, I ink distressed and water splotched the "sky", then stamped over the entire card with the Friend definition stamp. I trimmed the image to make a smaller card and added a puffy heart sticker for dimension.

And here are two ATCs that I made with some smaller pieces using the same technique.

I am so glad that I got to play with these little girls. They are so cute and fun to color! I tried to use different skin tones and hair colors and it felt like I was playing with paper dolls! There are so many possibilities for using them, too.

Here's a simple paper wallet to hold a little cash or a gift card. I used a Cuttlebug folder to give some texture and decorated with Hero Arts felt flowers.

On this card I trimmed off the heads (ouch!) and tilted them slightly towards each other for a "best friends" card. I also sanded down the embossed background to make the flowers pop.

Here are a couple more Christmas cards that I made over the weekend. This poor Greeting Farm deer was cut and colored months ago and tossed around in my scrap bag. His neck was a little bent so I supported it with the poinsettia button and he's good as new. Can you tell that the little snowflake is resting on his nose?

Love digis?

Just sharing two cards made with Pure Innocence digital stamps that I bought from Heather Ellis' Etsy shop. You can find her stamps online, which cost three times as much, and then wait for them to arrive by snail mail. Or you can get these digis in 24 hours or less--sometimes as soon as you pay for them. Gotta love that!

Now a ton of stamp companies are going digital and besides being less expensive than an actual piece of rubber, you can play with the sizes and flip the images to face different directions with the click of a button!

A Christmas Sprout and Sneaky Peeks!

A few months ago, The Greeting Farm held a contest to design a new "Sprout" character. There were a lot of amazing entries and some pretty talented people out there. The winner was Kim Yu and her design was turned into rubber. She named her Sprout "Sassy Suzi" and dressed her in a long fur trimmed coat and gave her a cool hairstyle!

I bought Suzi last week, during TGF's release and made this Christmas card for an older teen. Although it's hard to see, I lined up all the sentiments from a MSE stamp set and stamped them as the background and made my own patterned paper.

Before I send the Sophie card to Jennifer, I thought I'd make a few more cards and mail them all out on Monday. I had these Taylored Expressions cuppies already colored and the card drive is a good incentive to turn them into cards.

I bought these stamps last year and they were my first introduction to cling stamps. When my friend Alice was chosen to be a part of Taylor's Sketch Crew, I found them and remembered how cute they were. I just realized that the tan cuppie looks more like a muffin.

And look at this adorable mini card that Jenyfur from Caardvarks sent me along with a RAK that I won last month. I was more excited about her card than the Clean and Simple stamps which were the actual prize. It's a cute 3x4" digital hybrid card, and I noticed Hero Arts' digi penguin and snowflake images. So much texture and embellies on a tiny masterpiece. The stamps are pretty cool, but receiving a handmade card is priceless! Thank you, Jenyfur!

Card drive and yummy candy!

Jennifer McGuire is once again hosting a card drive for ailing children and their families. Cards for Kids is an ongoing one, and cards can be sent not only at Christmas, but year round.

Visit her blog for the details and even if you're super busy, it's such a "feel good" effort to send even one card to brighten a young child's holiday or any day. Even a (gasp!) Hallmark card would be heartfelt and appreciated.

Our younger daughter was a cancer patient when she was 10 months old and I can empathize with families who spend the holidays in or out of the hospital with an ill child. Siblings are sometimes forgotten and a card would surely brighten up their day as well.

Thanks to some enabling from Alice, I've discovered Mo's digital images that are so easy to print and color. This Sophie card will be on its way to Jennifer this weekend.

Paula is hapai!

I was so excited when I found out that our Flickr friend Paula is hapai (hah-pie')--the Hawaiian word for "pregnant". This will be her second baby and I thought what better time to use the new Mom image from The Greeting Farm. I sent this card along with some stamped images and I'm sharing it since she just received it.

I altered the image slightly by trimming off the pants that the mom was wearing and drew in and colored some legs. I also cut apart the Hero Arts sentiment so that it fit the space. I'm becoming a little more comfortable with altering designs and may soon start to switch heads and bodies.

Gobble, gobble!

We'll be leaving for the airport in a few hours, to celebrate Turkey Day (Ham Day) on Kauai and I'd like to wish you all an early Happy Thanksgiving. I'm so thankful for all the friendships I've made, and appreciate your visits to and comments on my blog.

Here's a pic of some Pumpkin Mochi which has become a Thanksgiving tradition over pumpkin pie in our family. For those unfamiliar with mochi (mo'-chee), it's slightly chewy and once you get used to it, you'll appreciate the taste and texture even more.

And here is the recipe, for any adventurous cooks out there:

Dry ingredients:

1 16 oz. box + 1/4 cup rice flour

2 cups sugar

2 tsp. baking powder

1-1/2 tsp. pumpkin pie spice

1/2 tsp. cinnamon

Wet ingredients:

4 large eggs

2 blocks butter, melted

1 14 oz. can sweetened condensed milk

1 29 oz. can pumpkin puree

2 tsp. vanilla extract

Preheat oven to 350 degrees. Grease a 9x13" pan and set aside. Combine all the dry ingredients in a large bowl. In a separate bowl, beat the eggs and add the remaining wet ingredients. Combine the two mixtures, and mix well. Batter will be thick. Pour into prepared pan and spread evenly. Bake for 1 hour. Let cool and cut into 1x2" pieces. It's easiest to cut mochi with a plastic knife. Refrigerate any leftovers.

Each piece has a zillion calories so enjoy in moderation.

This snowman card is a 99.9% lift from a girl named Teri, who happens to live in Hawaii. She does awesome projects and cards and I saw this snowman card on her blog and fell in love with it.

My original plan was to use another image, but I had the same Rachelle Anne Miller snowman and, with Teri's permission, I decided to use the same image as she did. And the Nestabilities pendant die arrived with perfect timing. I did use a different embossing folder and I substituted with the blossom die, but it's a definite lift.

Hello, Gamsol!

Since I've become a fan of Copics, my Prismacolor pencils and Gamsol have been stashed away. I was struggling with trying to color Uru and Bird, a Whiff of Joy stamp, with Copics. I didn't have the right greens, and some areas are super detailed. I ruined a couple of images because R39 bled through the lines, and it's really hard to "push" red with the colorless blender.

I picked up a Prisma and started coloring, using the Gamsol to blend and before I knew it, the image was colored! I'd forgotten how much I like using Gamsol and probably have more shades of Prismas than Copics.

There's a tutorial here on the WoJ site, that combines using Copics together with your Prismas and Gamsol. You lay a flat base of color with Copics first, and then use the Prismas and blend with Gamsol for shadowing. You can't do it in reverse order, or the Prismas will ruin your Copics.

Now the Prismas and Gamsol have earned a spot on my desk. I'll be reaching for them more often for detailed images...or until my Oozak order arrives.

Edited to note: I tried using Gamsol on digital images and there was some smearing. Do a test run on some small images before tackling a larger one.

A cookie for Santa

Here's another of Amy's original digi designs--Cookie Break Santa. Love that name! See the little cookie in his hand? Now that's my kind of Santa!

I love how quickly you can start using digis after you download them, and being able to resize them, too. Not having to clean your stamps, or wonder where you're going to store them is an added bonus.

It wasn't my original intention to make a brown Christmas card. But I liked how the reds and greens looked against the background and decided to leave it as is. You can find Cookie Break Santa along with more of Amy's digi fairies, angels, and elves at All That Scraps.

Meet Fidget Goblinspider

Super talented Amy has designed a number of stamps and showcased them on her blog. Not only are they awesome, but she's made a perfect card with each of them. They are now on sale in digi form at All That Scraps and they're going fast!

She designed several fairies and I bought Fidget Goblinspider because I fell in love with her skirt. It reminds me of a mushroom or toadstool, and I loved her hairdo. Loved it so much that I cut off a part that was too intricate for me to trim. Now Fidget has an unexpected new 'do and I apologized to Amy--and got some cutting tips and words of advice: Practice, practice, practice!

I used a card base that I made a while ago, added some glitter to the dots on Fidget's skirt, and Glossy Accents (again!) on her eyes. Isn't she a cutie? Check out Amy's blog to see more "November Sweets" and get them while you can at ATS.

Another Izzy

I think Izzy is one of my favorite images to color right now. I still want to try a darker skin tone like Kelly did, but that means placing another order at Oozak for darker brown Copics.

I'm entering Caardvarks' circle card challenge with this buttony Izzy card. The background was made using Jennifer McGuire's distressed background technique which I love, especially with the Peeled Paint distress ink. I applied Glossy Accents to Izzy's eyes again, a technique which was shared to me by Kelly.

I'm planning to send this to a friend's daughter who is recovering from a nasty flu. I'm sure she's on her way to recovery and hopefully back in school.

Sweet and Goth

Sugar Nellie is a Scottish based stamp company and I recently bought a few of their Gorjuss Girls to play with. Their designs are so "girly" and are just the right size to practice Copics coloring. And they're easy to trim out, too

--a big plus for me!

Amy shared this card on her blog using Goth Girl and I didn't know what was "Goth" about her. I just liked how she was sitting and I wanted to place her on a circular design.

She has a teeny skeleton barrette, so I did an "Amy" and used a baby wipe to wipe away the skeleton and drew in a little heart. Check out Amy's tutorial here and here to see how she alters images.

Now Goth Girl isn't Goth anymore! Thanks, Amy, for sharing your altering tips and giving me the confidence to change that barrette.

Meet Izzy

The Greeting Farm came out with a new line of stamps called Twinkle Tots and when I saw them during their sneak peek, I knew that I would love them.

The stamps arrived on Wednesday and I couldn't wait to ink them up and color them. They're a little different from the Anya designs--a little more realistic--and a lot of fun to color. This is Izzy and I added a little Glossy Accents on her eyes to make them shinier.

Here's a close up of Izzy's eyes. If you look at them long enough, they start to look a little scary--like real eyes!

Maybe I shouldn't have used the glossy stuff....

Twin awards

I was doubly surprised when both Amy and Jane honored me with the same award two days apart. I'm supposed to share five things about myself and then pass this award on to five others. So here goes:

1. I'm sitting here at my new desk on my new swivel chair and my feet are dangling. I think I'm shrinking by the week.

2. Even though I bought a bunch of Copic markers in Japan, I just placed an order for about a dozen more from Oozak....because Rusty emailed me.

3. Some days I'll stay in my pajamas until noon. Or at least till 10am.

4. I'm getting excited about Thanksgiving, not because of turkey, but because of ham. I LOVE Costco's spiral cut ham so much that my last Mother's Day gift to myself was a 7lb. shank.

5. I do share the ham with my family.....

Himawari Babies

I've seen Himawari Babies designs used on some blogs and was always wondering who sold those stamps and where could I find them? Blogging friend Denise graciously sent me some images to play with. It turns out that she's a designer for Himawari (him'-ah-wah-ree) which means "sunflower" in Japanese.

They're images printed on good quality cardstock, already colored, and ready to be used. You can punch them out with paper punches or Nesties and affix them to a card or tag or even a scrapbook layout. How wonderfully easy is that?

Jennifer McGuire made these cards a while back and they've always been a favorite of mine. I trimmed out some images and put these together really quickly with scallop circle punches and used some Cuttlebug folders for texture.

I can see how these would make quick cards because I made these in less than 30 minutes and tucked them into goodie bags for my neighbors. Thanks, Denise, for introducing me to Himawari Babies!

Trick or Treat!

I bought a set of kitty stamps from The Greeting Farm during their recent Farmer's Market sale. After I colored one of the cats, it looked a little too dark to be used on anything but a Halloween card.

When I saw the image of the little mouse, I knew exactly what I wanted to do! Light bulbs don't click on very often so I had to work fast! I even sketched a little witch's hat (inspired by Amy!) and colored and cut it out, along with the mouse. I Googled "candy corn" to check the order of the colors and here is the end result of a very quick card.

Tall card challenge

Caardvarks is having a tall card challenge and I'm not sure if this qualifies--it feels like I'm cheating! I love Purple Onion Designs' noteblock stamps. I own about 6 of them and even ordered some wood to fit because all of their stamps are sold unmounted.

I used the noteblock on an earlier Halloween card and trimmed it to fit, so I'm glad that I could use it full size for this card. I also used the Nestabilities scalloped rectangle dies for the first time and the noteblock image fits almost perfectly in the middle of them. Added more little ghouls from The Greeting Farm and I'm happy with this tall card. There are a lot of awesome submissions--check them out here.

Paper tearing challenge

Last week's challenge at Hero Arts was to do some type of paper tearing on a card or scrapbook layout. I just received the Friendship Definition stamp in the mail and decided to make some scraplings since I have a ton of scraps to use. All four images--the butterfly, frog, flower, and deer were in my scrap bag, waiting for a home.

After stamping the text, I ink distressed in different colors and used a ruler to tear them into strips that would fit scrapling sized pieces of cardstock. And I love the little leaf sizzlit from Stampin Up so I used them on all four scraplings. Done!
