CASual Fridays Challenge 129 is Shades of Gray--create a clean and simple project

using at least TWO SHADES OF GRAY.

I managed to use three shades of gray on my card.

I stamped Hero Arts' Tweed Background in Wet Cement (first shade of gray)
on Silver Fox card stock (second shade) and die cut the sentiment. The piece was placed
on Fog card stock (third shade) and a few enamel dots were added for contrast.

Can you tell that I was channeling Laura Bassen while I made this?

And there it is. Easy peasy, right?
So remember with the new format, you have lots of time to play along
with the monthly challenges. And enter as many times as you like!
Just keep it CAS and you're good to go.

CAS(E) this Sketch 66

Here's CAS(E) this Sketch 66 brought to you by Julie.

And here's what happens when Amy Tangerine meets Technique Tuesday.

The patterned papers are from the new Plus One collection. For contrast,
I die cut the sentiment from bright pink cardstock.

I also swiped the Delicata Gold ink pad on the top of the sentiment for some pizazz
and a few matching sequins finished off the card. And there you have it.
A card with absolutely no stamping. Are you spoiled by dies? I am!

I'm honored to be guesting at my friend Mariana Grigsby's blog today!
If you don't know Mariana, you'll want stop by and see her inspiring cards and layouts.
She has a wonderful style and I love her start-to-finish videos that are fun to watch.

Mariana has started having monthly themes on her blog, and February's theme is
BUTTERFLIES & HEARTS.

I was asked to create and share a card based on the theme and here it is.

See the hexagon background? I call it "water stamping with a stencil".
After ink distressing white card stock with distress inks, I spritzed some water
on a stencil and pressed it on the inked surface.

When I lifted the stencil, the wet portion took away the color
and left behind a "ghost" image. After drying the surface with a heat gun, I gold embossed
the sentiment and added some hearts and butterfly punched from gold card stock.

I'm also linking this up to the Happy for Hexagons Challenge over at
Moxie Fab World since I used a hexagon (honeycomb) stencil, as well as
Winnie & Walter's Join in to Win.

Yes, it's true! I am officially a Girl Friday at CASual Fridays!!

I'm honored and excited to be in the company of an amazingly talented group of designers

and can't wait to get started with the challenges.

Q: How long have you been a card maker, and how were you first introduced to it?

A: I can't pinpoint an actual date, but a rough estimate would be 20 years ago

when a friend showed me heat embossing and I was mesmerized. I still am.

Q: What color are your toenails painted right now?

A: Sally Hansen's 170--Pink Slip

Q: If your family locked up your crafty supplies for an entire month, what would you do instead?

A: Probably travel somewhere that involves a passport.

Q: Favorite thing to order at Starbucks:

A: Part of me wants to say "Cranberry Bliss Bars", but it's really a grande

Strawberries & Creme Frappuccino with soy, hold the whipped.

Q: You've reached your destination but just as you are turning off your car, a song comes
on the radio and you are sooo happy to hear it that you sit in your car until it's over
(singing along is optional *wink*). Name that song.
A: "Don't Stop Believin'"--the Journey version with Steve Perry. Cranked up high.

Here's my card for Challenge #1.

I love a good sentiment set and CAKE AND CANDLES is definitely a must have
for birthdays. I was especially smitten with the "make a wish" sentiment which,
if you look closely, has a cool, sketchy appearance.

 
I stamped the sentiment to resemble birthday candles and got a chance to use

Avery Elle's NEW pigment inks which give excellent stamp coverage.

I used four of my favorite colors, and the candle flames were

hand drawn with Copic markers and some glittery Stickles were added.

CAS(E) this Sketch 65

Here's this week's sketch by Sam.

And here's my easy peasy, literal take on it.

I stamped three of the adorable Chickadees from Technique Tuesday and used some
Distress inks to watercolor them. And yes, I tried my best not to stay in the lines.

The sentiment--is it too bold?--is from Hero Arts and I just love how that green chick
is always lookin' perplexed with whatever is under him.  So cute!
