Pretty in Pink

CAS-ual Fridays Challenge #58 is Pretty in Pink. I'm not a huge fan of pink, but I wanted to play along with the challenge and pay tribute to my mom.

Pink always reminds me of the breast cancer awareness ribbon. I grabbed the Paper Smooches set and stamped both the ribbon and sentiment. The wonky stitched border is from a discontinued stamp set and the ribbon was decorated with a bit of bling.

I love that sentiment. My mom was a breast cancer survivor and she was a fighter, too. And she loved the color pink!

Heroes Card Drive

I love a good card drive. It's a "feel good" way to participate in a worthy cause and share your handmade cards with others. Laurel Beard's husband recently left on deployment and she would love to send some cards to her husband's troop for them to send to their loved ones.

Here's a shot of my cards that are on their way to Laurel. It's fun to imagine where the recipient of each card lives and how far each card will eventually travel.

If you have some extra cards, please consider sending them to Laurel. I know she'll appreciate them and you'll be rewarded with the feeling that you're helping to bring sunshine and smiles to others.

MFW Tuesday Trigger--Man-tastic

The latest Tuesday Trigger at Moxie Fab World received a deadline extension while Cath gets complete rest and heals quickly from her recent shoulder surgery.

I had this card in mind when I saw the Trigger. I used Paper Smooches' hexagon border and grabbed a bunch of Copics. I tried not to put two colors together but as you can see, there are two grays side by side. Oopsie!

It was so relaxing to simply color the hexagons so I did it again. This time, I stamped everything in Memento brown and left a few hexagons open so I really didn't have to think about color placement. 

I think this may be my "go to" design for a last minute card.

Kissing time

Challenge #6 at A Blog Named Hero is to use the kissing technique on your card. If you're not familiar with stamp kissing, Shari Carroll shares a great video tutorial on this fun technique here.

For my card, I inked up In the Garden with Peeled Paint distress ink, then inked up Lace Background with Wet Cement Mid Tone shadow ink and "kissed" them together. I love the textural feel of the solid area of the stamp.

I tied a bit of hand dyed seam binding and added a pearl as a finishing touch. The sentiment is from Hero Arts' Everyday Sayings.

Catered Crop Challenge--Banners & Bunting

The challenge this week at Catered Crop is to use a banner or bunting on your project.
One lucky player will win their choice of three digital stamps by Torico from her Etsy shop, Birdie Brown. I love Torico's whimsically cute images so I wanted to play along.

I colored up Purple Onion Designs' banner flags with Copics (BV13, RV55, Y21, YG03, and B02) and added some dots for texture. They were trimmed and adhered with dimensional tape.

The background digital paper is from The Queen of Quirk, and the sentiment is one of my favorites from Paper Smooches. I also added a bit of wonky stitching around the edge to match the banners.

I wanted to add something between each flag so they would look "connected" and I remembered the twine knots that my friend Emily shared in her video tutorial here. They were adhered with Glossy Accents and the card was done.

I'm going to blame the summer heat for turning me into such a lazy stamper. I seem to be using a minimal amount of stamps on a card and being happy with it.
