Hello, friends! I was going to title this post "Cut, Spatter, and Tape". I'm entering
CAS-ual Fridays challenge to use paper punches or dies on your card.

I used Papertrey Ink's lower case alpha dies and decided to focus on the negative portion for the card. I did have to save the little pieces inside of the "e" and "o", and adhered them with THE smallest pieces of dimensional tape.

I scribbled the word "sunshine" and stamped over with a very old spatter stamp in two different colors. It looked a little blah, so I added some strips of washi tape. I think I went overboard again. I should have left it plain. Not so CAS, is it?

I'm also entering it in Moxie Fab World's Spatter (Splatter?) Technique Challenge even though I feel like I "cheated" with the spattering.

And have you seen the Washi Workshop sponsored by Studio Calico? It looks like a fun one! I'm looking forward to learning more wonderful ways to use this amazing product--besides just stickin' it on a card.






Lastly, over the weekend we jetted to Kauai for a family wedding and I wanted to share a shot of the wedding cake. Totally gorgeous and it was absolutely delish. A great inspiration photo, no?

I missed a challenge deadline. Again. By the time I thought about what I wanted to do with A Blog Named Hero's second challenge--Topsy Turvy--the deadline came and passed.
My brain works slow sometimes.

The challenge was to use a sentiment in a way other than as a sentiment. Here is my card.

And a closer look at the candle flames. I used a very old Tsukineko Dauber Duo (remember those?) with both a Marigold and Canary dauber. Some Rock Candy Distress Stickles were added for a bit of a glow. Love that stuff!


I'll be entering this card in Hero Arts May challenge which has a birthday theme. Perfect. And I'm not late!

MFW Spatter Technique Challenge

Hello, hello! Have you caught on to the spattering craze? There's a challenge over at Moxie Fab World to spatter up your card or project and when I saw this, the cute little Paper Smooches chick popped into my head.

I perched her on top of the paintbrush and masked them both. I thinned out some Crayola watercolors with a good amount of water and spattered away. I made sure to dab some paint on the mad artist after removing the masks. I just love her adorable expression!

I have a very old rubber stamp with a spatter image and was tempted to use that. But spattering by hand is inky fun and I loved the result. Plus, it took me all of 15 minutes to finish the card!

You have until June 4th to spatter up a project and the winning entries will win a copy of Card Creations Vol. 10. It's a good one!

Lily Pad Cards Rainy Day Challenge

Hello, friends! I'd like to share my card that I'm submitting for Lily Pad Cards Rainy Day Challenge. The requirement is to use rain or anything rain related on your card. I decided to go with umbrellas. Big surprise, huh?

I love Memory Box dies, and I love umbrellas. So it was a no brainer for me to get their umbrella die. It's so cute!

I die cut three umbrellas from some cheery Amy Tangerine Sketchbook papers. I wanted to create a happy card because here in Hawaii, we use the umbrella to block out the sun, more than we do the rain.

I layered the umbrellas on a piece of chevron patterned paper from Lawn Fawn, and the sentiment is from My Favorite Things. The yellow paper is also from the Sketchbook line, and I purposely chose the spattered portion for a bit of interest. A touch of bling and the card was done.

Warm fuzzies

The theme for this month's challenge at Hero Arts is birthdays. I'm a huge fan of felt, so I decided to make a felt cupcake.

Hero Arts came out with Frame Cuts--steel dies that match some of their stamps. I used the cupcake die from the Edge Frame set and die cut the cupcake and "frosting" out of some wool felt. I stitched the pieces together, added a face and some French knots as decoration. The blush was added with a Memento marker.

My kawaii cupcake was born.

I applied three different colors of washi tape and attached the cupcake. Stamped the fuzzy sentiment, added a felt heart, rounded off one corner and the card was done.

I had so much fun making the cupcake, and the dies cut through felt like butter. I may die cut and stitch a few more, just to have them on hand.
