ATS Wednesday Challenge

A quick post to share a card I'm entering in All That Scraps' Wednesday challenge which is shaped cards. Hello! I ♥ making shaped cards! I think 90% of my cards are shaped cards. I do love my Nesties....

I used Amy Young's Fidget Goblinspider digi, which is one of her older fairies from her Sweet November line, but she's always been a fave. I added Glossy Accents to her eyes and although she's a fairy, after I took some photos of the card--I think she resembles Ariel, the Disney mermaid, sans tail!

I hope I made the deadline. Hawaii does not switch to daylight savings and I've missed so many deadlines trying to figure out the time difference.

And here's a super quick Easter card for you! I saw this card on Lysa's Flickr photostream and had to get the Pink Cat Studio digi of the hoppin' bunnies! It reminds me of our three bunnies that we had for 11 years who are all in Bunny Heaven now, and seeing this image makes me smile!

Hoppy Easter to all.......I'm so excited that we're having Costco's spiral cut, honey glazed ham tonight! Yum!

Faux canvas flowers and a giveaway!

As soon as I saw Kristina Werner use some canvas flowers by Jillibean Soup in her video, a little light bulb went off and I had to try and make my own.

I stamped the Dots background on Claudine Hellmuth's wonderful sticky back canvas, using the new Hero Hues chalk ink in Punch. After letting it dry, I used a Nestabilities flower set and cut them out. Added a button and I was quite pleased with the result!

I wish that I used some type of acrylic paint so the dots would be darker, and maybe YOU can try and make some.

Yep, I'm giving away a pack of sticky back canvas and a Dot background cling stamp to one lucky person.

Even if you don't make these faux Jillibean Soup flowers, the canvas is a great surface to stamp on and takes all types of medium really well. And the Nestabilities cuts through the canvas cleanly, too. I'm also planning to die cut some butterflies soon...

Shaped cards and a winner

Because I struggle with card sketches, I like using Nestabilities dies to make quick cards. A few people have asked how they're constructed so this is a quick post to share how I make them.

Basically, you score the back Nestabilities shape about 1/2" down from the top, fold and attach to the front. For the Labels One die, I like to score about 3/8" to 1/2" from the top.

When using the circle scallop Nestabilities die, you have to count and score 4 or 6 scallops because there are an even number of scallops (22) and the card has to be able to stand on 2 scallops for viewing.

For the Nestabilities blossom die--which makes cute little cards--there are an odd number of scallops, so in order to make it stand, you have to score midway between three scallops in the back.

In the past, I've used a tape runner to attach the pieces together, but now I prefer a double stick tape.

I attach it to both sides of the card and it insures the card won't come apart with extra handling. It also helps to write your message inside the card before you attach the front and back pieces.
