welcome, Lila!

My sweet friend Jennifer McGuire received the best Mother's Day gift--the birth of her daughter Lila Grace. Her buddy Jana started a card shower for her, and visitors are encouraged to join in and create a card to celebrate this happy occasion.

I'm sharing my card since it's on its way to Jennifer. It's based on an earlier card that I CASEd from Chunyuan. I simply changed "baby" to "Lila" for a personalized touch.

Visit Jana's blog to see the wonderful cards that her friends have created, and join in the celebration by adding your card to the pool.

Wishing the McGuire family lots of love and best wishes, and a special hug to big brother Colin. Welcome, Lila Grace!

Yes, Virginia....I'm Inspired!

My blogging friend Virginia Lu has a challenge on her blog, based on the cool photos of her son and his friends with their colorful cello cases. (David has the blue cello case, second from the right.) The challenge is to create a card using the photos as inspiration.

Here's my take on the photo. I used Papertrey Ink's ricrac border die and die cut several colors of cardstock. At first I was going to go with a blue/green theme, but decided at the last moment to add the buttons for a punch of color. The sentiment is from Paper Smooches.

Entering this challenge made me realize how lucky we are to have color in our world and our everyday lives, and maybe we take colors for granted, sometimes.

If you're inspired by the photos, say "yes" to Virginia and join her challenge! You have until June 13th to enter and the prize up for grabs is a copy of Card Creations Vol. 10 and some extra goodies, too.

I hope you have a colorful week! Thanks so much for stopping by.

Damask and Brocade

My first "encounter" with damask was Purple Onion Designs' Vintage Damask Background stamp. It's always been a favorite, and I decided to pull it out and ink it up for Moxie Fab World's Damask and Brocade Challenge.

I used Spellbinders Labels 18 and sponged some shadow ink before removing the paper from the die. After stamping the sentiment, I added some faux stitching and pearls.

I made the roses with some cream colored rayon seam binding and layered on peach and green bows for a bit of contrast.

I'm also entering this card in Ribbon Carousel's Challenge 54 to make or use some flowers on your card.

Thanks so much for stopping by. Whatever you have planned, I hope you're having a great weekend!

welcome baby

I noticed that I've been using a lot of dies and punches on my cards. And most of them used only one stamp. One. I'm extending that streak by sharing another one.

I totally CASEd Chunyuan's card that I spotted in Flickr. As soon as I saw it, I wanted to make a baby card, and I happened to have the same dies as Chunyuan, too.

To keep it a one layer card, I used my scoring board to emboss the raised border from the back of the card and added one more cloud. My one stamp is the sentiment from Paper Smooches. I love Kim's whimsical handwritten sentiments.

I made a similar card to give to a new mom, and personalized it with her baby's name. I can't share it here as I haven't mailed it out yet, but I'm really lovin' these "one stamp" cards. For one thing, it's a breeze to clean my desk, and I'm playing with some older stamps that are finally getting inked.

Thanks for the inspiration, Chunyuan! And thanks for stopping by today.
